AMÉRICA TIENE ALMA (Texto versión en Inglés)

AMÉRICA TIENE ALMA

The soul of America

This remarkable film shows us the maturity, coherence and continuity on Carlos Azpurua’s cinematographic work which has its origins on his previous works “Yo hablo a Caracas” (I speak to Caracas) as well as on his illustrative masterpiece “Amazonas, El negocio de este mundo” (The Amazon: The most profitable business in the world), and ending with this deep thought on the Bolivian current political and social reality.

The main topic of the movie is a party –the Carnival of Oruro- which represents the maximum expression of happiness, diversity and collective reconciliation in Bolivia. Enemies and friends dance together a ring dance called corro de vida y muerte or dance of the life and death. As the party finishes, a new massacre could begin. But just as the indigenous president Evo Morales stated, they celebrate life, death and rebirth with hope. With the same hope, Latin America watches that dramatic dance, on the edge of a tragedy, with its soul hanging by a thread and with the eyes fixed on the changes yet to come.
